Rajinikanth hits out at AIADMK for protests against Vijay-starrer Sarkar

In Kerala

"Sarkar", released on November 6, has reportedly had a very good opening, ringing in cash at the box office.

Party cadres protested outside the theatres which screened the movie in several places and damaged the banners on Thursday and Friday morning. Also a woman character's name, apparently referring to the late AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, was muted after backlash from the ruling party workers.

Vijay's Sarkar has finally given up under the huge pressure from the ruling AIADMK and its makers have agreed to edit parts of the movie seen critical of the ruling party, and former chief minister J Jayalalithaa who died in 2016.

"While we don't know how many scenes have been deleted, we can say for sure that the objectionable scene on mixer and grinder being burnt has been removed", they said.

"We have chose to delete the scenes that AIADMK workers found to be offensive", said Shanmugasundaram, owner of Udhayam Theatres in Chennai.

"We have nothing to do with the film or Vijay", he said, even as he described the star as a 'dear friend'.

If the grapevine is anything to go by, "Sarkar" team has agreed to mute scenes that have been termed controversial.

The issue related to usage of certain animals and birds in the film. "The revised version of the film is expected to reach theatres by Friday night", he added.

Earlier in the day, Tamil "Superstar" Rajinikanth threw his weight behind Vijay, questioning the AIADMK's rationale in protesting against a film certified by the censor board. He condemned unlawful acts such as damaging the film's banners and demanding the removal of certain scenes from the film.
