Unseeded Karen Khachanov stuns Novak Djokovic to win Paris Masters tennis title

Novak Djokovic

Brilliant one-handed winners on the run from Federer and acute-angle volleys at the net were matched by tireless retrieving from the baseline and laser-beam forehands to the lines from Djokovic. 'All of a sudden they do not happen for a while.

Djokovic's elevation is remarkable as it comes just five months after he slumped to 22nd in the world - his lowest ranking for 12 years - when he was knocked out of the French Open in the quarter-finals. And when they happen, you party like a rock star.

"Next to the match I played against (Rafa) Nadal in the Wimbledon semis, this was definitely the most exciting match I've played this year, and probably the best quality match that I was part of".

"It depends on how I'm playing, how my body feels".

"I stepped in more inside the court", Khachanov said.

In one of the best non-Grand Slam matches of the year, Novak Djokovic extended his win streak to 22 by edging Roger Federer 7-6 (6), 5-7, 7-6 (3) to advance to the finals of the Paris Masters.

The match promised much, and delivered from the off as Djovovic gave fans a glimpse of what was in store in the very first set, needing 71 minutes to overcome Federer 7-6 (8-6). "I couldn't be happier to end the season like this, to win against Novak Djokovic, the number one in the world".

Djokovic saved three break points to reduce the deficit to 4-3, but Khachanov did not allow him a sniff of a break back and sunk to his knees to plant a kiss on the court after an errant backhand from the four-time Paris Masters champion secured the upset.

Here's why Trump wants to shut Iran out of the oil market
Quoting a senior USA administration official, Bloomberg News reported that the eight parties include Japan, India and South Korea. India along with seven other nations have been exempted from sanctions getting imposed against them for importing oil from Iran.

"I want to talk about how well (Khachanov) played all week and absolutely deserved to win today", Djokovic told reporters.

Serbia's Novak Djokovic (L) and Switzerland's Roger Federer shake hands at the end of their men's singles semi-final tennis match on day six of Paris Masters tournament in Paris, on November 3, 2018.

Federer battled admirably to stay on serve in the second set, as Djokovic had chances to break in multiple different games, and Djokovic appeared in control of the match.

The Russian dominated the match and won the first set 6-4.

"I'm satisfied of course and I'm going to be No. 1 tomorrow".

Khachanov added this title to the Kremlin Cup in Moscow last month for his third title of the year and fourth overall.

"It means the world to me", said world number 18 Khachanov. And what more can I ask for?
