Cardinals acquire first baseman Paul Goldschmidt from Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks announced on Wednesday evening that the club traded first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to the Cardinals in exchange for pitcher Luke Weaver, catcher Carson Kelly, infielder Andrew Young, and a Competitive Balance Round B 2019 draft pick.

St. Louis went 88-74 last season and felt it needed a boost in the middle of a lineup that includes Matt Carpenter, Marcell Ozuna and Yadier Molina to compete with the likes of Milwaukee and the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.

In 2013, Goldschmidt hit 36 home runs and drove in 125. In his eight-year career, the right-handed hitter has batted.270/.387/.479 with eight home runs in 44 games against them.

However, Kochava also pointed the finger at big money-makers like Clean Master. Cheetah Mobile has no control over these third party advertising platforms.

Goldschmidt, 31, is the only NL player to be an All-Star each of the past six seasons - only Mike Trout and Salvador Pérez in the American League have done the same - and that's just the start of his hardware.

The Cardinals first must acquire Goldschmidt, then convince him over time to stick with the team before we can gauge the merits of their risky pursuit. Goldschmidt debut with the Diamondbacks on August 1, 2011, it has been a great run with Goldie in a Dbacks uniform. The Washington Nationals signed Patrick Corbin to a six-year 140 million dollar contract.

Weaver, a 25-year-old right-hander, was 7-11 with a 4.95 ERA last season. Greinke came to the Dback after three seasons with the Dodgers.
