European Union rules out renegotiation as May seeks help from Merkel

France's minister for European affairs, meanwhile, said on Tuesday that the current withdrawal agreement is the "only deal possible" and Europe must prepare for Britian to crash out of the bloc without an agreement.

Acknowledging that she faced "significant losses" if she had asked parliament to vote on the deal on Tuesday, May had told lawmakers she would seek ways to try to ease their concerns, particularly over the so-called Northern Irish backstop.

However, European Council president Donald Tusk insisted there was no question of reopening negotiations on the Brexit deal.

The problem centres on an insurance policy known as the backstop, created to guarantee an open Irish border.

The EU and the British government, however, said they were wrong.

Prime Minister Theresa May makes a statement in the House of Commons in London, explaining she has made a decision to "postpone" the parliamentary vote on her European Union divorce deal.

"My best prediction would be that by next week, Britain will have a new Conservative prime minister".

In an emergency judgment delivered just 36 hours before it expected the British parliament to vote on a Brexit deal agreed with the European Union by Prime Minister Theresa May, the Court of Justice (ECJ) said: "The United Kingdom is free to revoke unilaterally the notification of its intention to withdraw from the European Union".

"If we can't go forwards with her deal. then I'm afraid the only way to change the policy is to change the prime minister and I really think it' her duty to go", Brexit-supporting Conservative lawmaker Steve Baker said.

A minor mishap for British PM Theresa May as a auto door wouldn't open in Berlin.

May is due to meet Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday, Downing Street said.

"We need to revoke Article 50 with immediate effect".

On 23rd June, 2016, there was a referendum in the UK.

According to may, if the members of the house of Commons will not support designed and agreed in the Brussels plan for Brexit, Britain would be in a situation of uncertainty. The British Parliament is between the age of 20.

May will hold a meeting of her cabinet on Wednesday afternoon.

May spoke at the weekend to Tusk, Merkel and Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, raising speculation they offered some hope of further concessions.

Tusk said the other 27 European Union leaders will discuss Brexit at a special meeting on Thursday, at the beginning of a preplanned summit in Brussels which May will herself attend.

"I cannot imagine where we could change something substantial in the withdrawal agreement".

"What they might do is add some language to the political declaration, not the withdrawal agreement", he added. May had earlier told Parliament she is going to seek "additional reassurance" on the backstop.

Critics object to the backstop - a temporary customs arrangement created to prevent the need for checkpoints at the Irish border if a long-term solution that avoids them can not be agreed - because it imposes different regulations in Northern Ireland from the rest of the UK.

She confirmed she is only seeking reassurances.

Mr Juncker won applause from MEPs as he said: "There is no room whatsoever for renegotiation, but of course there is room if used intelligently, there is room enough to give further clarifications and further interpretations without opening the Withdrawal Agreement".

The prime minister's U-turn sparked anger among MPs on all sides, who had spent three days debating the deal and had been promised the final say on it on Tuesday.

After declaring her "shambolic" government to be "in complete disarray", leader Jeremy Corbyn declined to call for a vote of confidence in her government - the potential trigger for the general election that he says he wants.
