Heisman victor Kyler Murray apologizes for anti-gay tweets

Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray poses with the Heisman Trophy after winning the award Saturday in New York

When Kyler Murray stepped up and hoisted the Heisman Trophy into the air Saturday night in NY, the Oklahoma quarterback completed one of the most impressive rallies of his young career, overtaking Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa down the stretch to capture college football's top individual prize.

A series of tweet of Murray calling someone "queer" resurfaced, causing a frenzy, despite it being roughly six years old. "I did not intend to single out any individual or group", Murray tweeted.

Four offensive tweets remained active on his account late Saturday night. Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa and Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins are the other finalists.

Asked this week about his sporting future, Murray said it had "already kind of been decided as of right now".

The Sooners will be back in action on December 29 against Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinal Orange Bowl.

Gleeson later updated his piece to include Murray's apology, claiming that the star quarterback "took accountability" after Gleeson's hit piece on him. "Something that I'll always cherish for the rest of my life".

Murray passed for 4,053 yards and 40 touchdowns with just seven interceptions, completing almost 71 percent of his attempts while combining for 51 total touchdowns. "But I don't know how possible that is".

The A's drafted Murray ninth overall in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft, and Boras negotiated a $4.66 million deal - one the A's might not have offered had Murray wanted to play football.

Murray started his career at Texas A&M, where his father, Kevin Murray, set season and career passing records as the Aggies' quarterback in the mid-1980s.

"You pushed me harder than any coach ever has and I just want to say thank you for believing in me and allowing me to be the quarterback of this team".

Murray was Mayfield's backup last season and won the starter's job in preseason practice.
