Kevin Hart steps down as Oscars host

Twitter found Oscars host Kevin Hart's homophobic jokes

Kevin Hart has recently come under fire after his now-tenuous position as 2019 Oscars host resulted in the resurfacing of anti-gay tweets he made in the early 2000s, but "Pose" star MJ Rodriguez doesn't think he should lose his hosting duties over the tweets.

As we reported, after he was announced as the host of the 2019 Oscars, the comedian quietly deleted tweets that many believe to be homophobic.

The comic announced his decision on Twitter, contending that, "I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many incredible talented artists". "I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past", wrote Hart.

"The same energy that went into finding those old tweets could be the same energy put into finding the response to the questions that have been asked years after years after years", Hart said in his latest video.

Buzzfeed reports that Benjamin Lee, an editor for the U.K.'s Guardian, was one of the first to address Hart's controversial posts, writing on Wednesday, "I wonder when Kevin Hart is gonna start deleting all his old tweets".

It'd be one thing if this was a one-time tweet (Still bad, but not as bad), or if he apologized, or if he didn't call out people who were alarmed by him repeatedly using the word "gay" or "fag" in a derogatory manner.

Congress Ready to Punt Spending Fight for Two Weeks
McConnell told reporters in Louisville on Saturday it's up to Trump "to do a deal with the Democrats". The current spending agreement expires on Friday.

"So I just got a call from the Academy, and that call basically said, 'Kevin, apologize for your tweets of old". The reason why I passed is because I've addressed this several times.

The awards ceremony will take place in February, with Hart describing the gig as the "opportunity of a lifetime" when he was made host. But we hope he has a handsome day.

Regarding the supposed controversy on Instagram, Kevin told his followers and all of those concerned to "stop looking for reasons to be negative". He said, "Keep in mind, I'm not homophobic". Even though Hart is now deleting the offending tweets, one imagines he hasn't had a change of, ahem, heart about them. "I am evolving and want to continue to do so".

GLAAD, the advocacy group for LGBTQ rights, said Thursday that it has reached out to Oscars broadcaster ABC, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and Hart's management to 'discuss Kevin's anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and record'. "Guys, I'm nearly 40 years old". I'm the wrong guy, man. If you don't believe people change, grow as they get older, I don't know what to tell you.

This leaves the award show without a host for the time being, although the search for a replacement is surely on. Murphy soon after exited, as well.
