NEWSFEATURES Instagram Reverts Update After Receiving Online Backlash

Instagram Starts Testing a Horizontal Feed & Users Freaked Out

The change meant that instead of scrolling through a feed of pictures from friends, as the app has worked since its launch in 2010, users had to tap to see more pictures.

Within minutes people took to social media to complain about the new update.

Given the reaction to the update, it's probably fair to suggest that the Instagram-faithful won't be particularly enthused if the company does decide to go ahead with this change at scale.

After much backlash from the new update, Instagram reverted back to its original layout. Some users got this update and negatively reacted to the fact that the app made their feed horizontal and the scroll function is completely gone.

Some Instagram users were flummoxed Thursday morning as the photo-sharing app's timeline feature switched from its familiar vertical scroll to a horizontal feed. Back in October, Instagram had been testing the feature in the Explore section. Shortly after, Instagram's main Twitter account chimed in, apologizing for any confusion caused by the so-called "bug".

Sears, facing liquidation, says it will close 80 more stores
Sears had previously announced plans to close 188 stores by the end of 2018, and another 40 stores by February 2019. Sears Auto Center is set to close late January, while the retail portion is expected to be gone sometime in March.

"Introducing a new way to move through posts", the pop-up said, alongside a message encouraging people give it a try.

Before the revert, the updated feed employed the same interface used when viewing Instagram stories. Before that, he was vice president news feed, Facebook, Instagram's parent company.

The unwelcome update - which was likened to Tinder - was live for about an hour before it was rolled back.

'Tap through posts, just like you tap through stories'. They vented their dislike on Twitter. If you're still seeing the horizontal feed in the app, try restarting it, Mosseri says. This is something that Instagram is known to have been testing for a little while now, but it seems that today's rollout was entirely accidental - albeit one that gave a tantalizing glimpse into the future.

Some people logged into Instagram Thursday to an unwelcome surprise: Their vertical scrolling through images had disappeared.
