Tehran will never make nuclear-capable missiles - Foreign Ministry

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi

Britain's U.N. Ambassador Karen Pierce told reporters after the closed council meeting that members expressed "a lot of concern" about the December 1 test launch and stressed that the 2015 resolution doesn't say nuclear weapons must be on the missiles.

The provision's true intent has often been contested because the diplomatic language - "Iran is called upon not to undertake" - was agreed to at the time of the nuclear deal.

The United States is calling on the European Union to enact its own set of sanctions targeting Iran following Tehran's test of a missile this past weekend.

Iran's U.N. Mission said that the country's ballistic missile program is purely defensive and a "deterrent tool against foreign threats" and declared that the country isn't violating the resolution.

Iran has neither confirmed nor denied the test and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif hit back on Twitter: "Making a mockery of the [Security Council] won't obscure failure to fulfill obligations [and] to hold U.S. to account over non-compliance..."

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said on Sunday that the Islamic Republic is now one of the world's topmost missile powers despite being subject to severe sanctions during the past 40 years.

France "calls on Iran to immediately cease all activity linked to ballistic missiles conceived to carry nuclear weapons, including all launches using ballistic missile technology", it said.

It follows a statement from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday, in which he accused Iran of test-firing a missile capable of carrying nukes and in breach of the 2015 nuclear agreement agreed between Tehran and world powers.

For the 30-year-old Pujara, the looming Test series is a chance to rectify one blot on his impressive cricketing resume. In the video, Kohli is seen ducking bouncers and dispatching imperious cover drives in Adelaide .

"Also, neither the United Kingdom nor France presented any evidence of this during UN Security Council consultations on the issue", he said.

He did not confirm or deny Iran had tested a new missile.

"Under President Trump, we are not abandoning global leadership or our friends in the worldwide system". But the separate continued development of Iran's missile programme is unsafe and provocative.

Worse still, the United States now not only openly forces all nations to violate the terms of resolution 2231, but also threatens to punish them for its implementation.

The remarks from Paris and London will be seen by the U.S. government as the first sign that its key European partners may yet be persuaded to view Iran's broader behaviour as so risky that their support for the 2015 Iran nuclear deal can no longer be justified.

He urged the country to "cease these activities" that violate the Iranian nuclear deal, despite the United States withdrawing from the landmark accord this May. It's all coming from Iran. "Iran is on the wrong track and our campaign of maximum economic pressure is created to starve the regime of the revenue it needs to test missiles and proliferate missiles, support terrorism, conduct cyber attacks, [and] conduct acts of maritime aggression".

"Furthermore, this ballistic missile activity is destabilising and increases regional tensions", it added.
