Trump to meet leaders of Japan, China, Russia, Germany at G-20

Buenos Aires: G20 leaders, wrestling with the US-China trade war and ascendant populism at their 10th summit this week, face a new crisis following Russia's naval confrontation with Ukraine.

Kudlow said the administration has been "extremely disappointed" by China's engagement in trade talks but the meeting between Trump and Xi on the sidelines of the G-20 summit could be a game-changer.

Kudlow also said the dinner with Xi was one of the last events on Trump's itinerary before his return to Washington, increasing the odds that any briefing about the results of the dinner would take place after the United States president's departure from Argentina.

They have imposed tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars of each other's imports. The United States targeted $250 billion in Chinese products, and Beijing lashed back by slapping tariffs on $110 billion worth of USA goods.

Lawrence Lau, a Hong Kong scholar with close ties to Beijing, said last week that Trump and Xi were likely to agree upon a "truce" to the trade war that may come in the form of a "framework agreement" with details to be worked out later.

Signing the agreement alongside Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, Trump said he looked forward to working with the U.S. Congress to complete the terms of the deal and did not anticipate problems in passing it.

China will have to give way on "fairness and reciprocity", he said, warning that United States concerns over intellectual property theft and China's forced technology transfers "must be solved".

OPEC, Canada Make Moves to Raise Crude Prices
A decision by Canada's province of Alberta to curtail production gave a further boost to futures. Losses were limited on Friday, however, on hopes of a production cut agreement.

Complicating the already complex diplomatic landscape, Russian Federation shot at Ukrainian ships and captured three vessels on Sunday, prompting the government in Ukraine to accuse Moscow of preparing for "full-scale war".

"Maybe I won't have the meeting", he said.

Trump said he would be receiving a "full report" from his national security team on Russia's recent actions in eastern Ukraine and the Black Sea.

Trump met in the morning with summit host and Argentine President Mauricio Macri at the presidential palace known as the Casa Rosada, or Pink House.

Also expected to loom large amid dozens of bilateral meetings in Buenos Aires: the gruesome slaying of Khashoggi in Saudi Arabia's Istanbul consulate and how the Saudi crown prince, who is alleged to have ordered the killing, is received by world leaders. But Trump has dismissed this, prompting an outcry from opponents and even some allies in Congress.

In a phone call Wednesday, Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed their concern about the incident, said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

"There may be a statement of principles (in Buenos Aires), confirming they will maintain negotiation and communication, but I think it will be hard to reach a comprehensive agreement, because to do that both sides need to make big concessions", he said.
