Former Leeds United striker Phil Masinga dies aged 49

Former South Africa and Leeds United striker Phil Masinga has died aged 49, says his country's football association.

Manager Howard Wilkinson signed Masinga and countryman Lucas Radebe. "The thoughts of everyone at Leeds are with his family and friends".

He will best be remembered for his goal against Congo, which ensured South Africa qualified for their first World Cup appearance in 1998.

His stay in England was a short one, and was followed by an even shorter one in Switzerland, before moving to Italy, where he turned out for Salernitana and later Bari.
