Meghan Markle's Latest Outing Marked a Major Fashion First

Meghan's patronages: Duchess of Sussex's four new causes revealed

The Duchess of Sussex wore a chic, workwear-inspired outfit today as she paid a visit to one of her first patronages Smart Works.

She also chose Smart Work, which helps long-term, unemployed women regain their skills, confidence and tools to do well in job interviews, as well as help with their transition back into employment.

The patronages at the National Theatre and the Association of Commonwealth Universities have both been passed on to the duchess from the Queen, who has been patron of the organisations for 45 and 33 years respectively.

The duchess's position with the National Theatre was leaked ahead of the official announcement and widely reported over the weekend.

In the months leading up to the holidays, after revealing that she and husband Prince Harry are expecting their first child together this spring, Meghan was dogged by countless reports of being hard behind the scenes and an alleged feud between her and sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.

According to PEOPLE, she first gave clues this was an area of interest for her after a visit to Brinsworth House - a residential nursing and care home for British entertainers.

Cape Town - Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, will become patron of four organisations, Kensington Palace has announced.

Markle continues sharing her passion for the arts, access to education, and animal welfare through her work as a duchess.

While Mayhew is a grassroots animal welfare organisation.

To date the charity has helped over 11,000 women and aims to dress 3,500 women this year across their two London offices, and additional bases in key cities across the UK - Edinburgh, Manchester, Reading, Birmingham and Newcastle. "We were honoured when The Queen became our Patron in 1974 and have celebrated many moments together including, in recent years, the Diamond Jubilee and the marking of our 50th anniversary".

Markle, who starred on the TV show "Suits" before she married Prince Harry, was thought to have recently invited Rufus Norris, the artistic director of the theatre, for a private meeting at the Palace.

Since Meghan joined the royal family in May 2018, she has received a slew of negative press amid her transition from Hollywood actress to Duchess of Sussex. "We're thrilled that HRH shares our commitment to improving the lives of animals and people, and are excited to make a difference together".
