NYC Mayor: City Will Guarantee Healthcare for All New Yorkers

NYC to provide a $100M 'public option' for healthcare to city's 600,000 uninsured de Blasio says

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has affirmed that every city resident will have access to comprehensive health care, regardless of their ability to pay or immigration status. But unless this public option is really, really, bad there'll be an awful lot of people who decide that dropping the insurance plan and relying upon the city will do just fine.

New York City will soon guarantee health care for all New Yorkers.

Proponents of a nationwide Medicare for All system were quick to applaud de Blasio's plan as a major victory for health justice and a significant step toward the establishment of a statewide single-payer system in NY.

The city plans to begin improving MetroPlus now, and to expand access for ineligible New Yorkers starting this summer.

Thiessen said the same claim was made after ObamaCare was passed, however, emergency room visits did not decline as predicted but instead increased. In 1995, for instance, then-mayor Rudy Giuliani empaneled a group of experts to address the future of the city's public hospitals. We want people to have primary care, specialty care.

'If folks get primary care or mental health services when they need them at the right point in life, that means you avoid everything from homelessness, incarceration, people losing their jobs'. Letting simple problems fester makes them more expensive to treat.

WSJ report accusing Beijing over 1MDB bailout groundless: Chinese Embassy in Malaysia
Since coming to power in May, Mahathir's government has accused the Najib administration of inflating the cost of Chinese deals. It couldn't be determined whether China provided any such information, the newspaper added.

The city already provides health care to the uninsured through its hospital system, but the mayor says he wants a more streamlined and user-friendly approach.

Councilman Joe Borelli (R-South Shore) said he feared that the $100 million cost could rise as more New Yorkers decide to opt into the program in the future or if federal and state governments change the rates of Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement.

The mayor tweeted "Through our own public health option and a new program called NYC Care, we'll ensure the first stop for people isn't the emergency room".

How about the Mayor of New York City take care of the people that was born here, like the ones that are sleeping on our streets. "Everyone should have a right to affordable, safe, culturally sensitive, high-quality health care regardless of their economic situations", said Flatbush Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte. The idea is to avoid going to an emergency room for non-emergency situations, freeing them up for their intended objective. That's fine, as far as it goes, but as a transformative, revolutionary program, it resembles telling people to call the Housing Authority if they need an apartment and then pretending that the housing crisis has been solved.

'The Republicans in Washington have been trying to tear down health care, we're doing the opposite, ' de Blasio said. His "health care for all" effort seems little different.
