Patrick McCaw's signing Cleveland Cavaliers reviewed National Basketball Association

Cavs Pat McCaw

The league plans to speak to McCaw's representatives on Thursday to probe into if McCaw and the Cavaliers reached an agreement to waive him so he could become an unrestricted free agent, sources said.

In any case, McCaw is now a member of the Raptors, who will be back in action on Friday night when they host the Brooklyn Nets (7:30 p.m. ET - Watch on FuboTV with NBA League Pass add-on), which is a great outcome to this whole scenario for him.

McCaw will sign a one-year, $786,000 veteran's minimum deal with Toronto, according to The Athletic.

The Raptors aren't involved in the investigation.

Mike McCarthy will only pursue Jets' head coaching position
The former first-round pick threw for 2,865 yards, 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 13 games during his rookie campaign. Gase, 40, was considered the next great offensive mind in the league when the Dolphins hired him in 2016.

Two days after being released by the Cavs, former Warriors guard Patrick McCaw cleared waivers at 2 p.m. PT on Wednesday. McCaw, 23, was an early-season holdout following two years with the Golden State Warriors.

McCaw has appeared in 131 career games with Golden State and Cleveland, averaging 3.9 points, 1.2 assists and 15.9 minutes, and was a member of the Warriors' 2017 and 2018 National Basketball Association championship squads.

McCaw appeared in three games for the Cavs and averaged 17.7 minutes, 1.7 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. The New York Times reports the league has granted the request and will perform a formal review of the transactions.

The Warrior filed a request with the National Basketball Association to investigate whether the transactions qualified as salary-cap circumvention. While the Cavaliers followed all the rules, and can argue McCaw played poorly in what they viewed as an audition before his contract became guaranteed, it wasn't hard to find the circumstances a bit fishy. He also will, once again, be a restricted free agent in the summer of 2019.
