VLC has three billion downloads

VLC Reaches 3 Billion Downloads Milestone Android App to Get Air Play Support Soon

VLC, one of the most popular open-source video players out there, has breached the 3 billion downloads milestone at the ongoing CES 2019 trade fair, around a quarter of which have been registered from the mobile platform. This means Android users will be able to send video content from their devices to an Apple TV.

But that's not all that the dozen or so people on the VLC development team are working on.

VLC is made by a non-profit outfit called VideoLan and runs entirely on donations so it is a wonder it is still with us. According to Variety, it is expected that VLC will surpass its downloads goal at some point in the day on Friday.

So what's next? In an interview with Variety, Jean-Baptiste Kempf, one of the app's lead developers, he shared some of the company's future plans for VLC, which includes adding support for AirPlay. With this, users can watch traditional 2D movies in a virtual theater using VR headsets such as the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift. In fact, it's so popular that the software has eclipsed three billion downloads, and to celebrate the firm behind VLC, VideoLAN, has announced that AirPlay support is coming.

Meghan Markle's half-brother arrested for DUI days after inviting her to wedding
According to the Sunday Times , Meghan has now lost her bodyguard, after working for the Duchess for less than a year. A second moaned: "Put his name in the headline and leave hers out of it, she has nothing to do with it".

To make it possible, headset manufacturers using SDK would have needed to add a massive amount of code with hundreds of megabytes to make the headset compatible with the main VLC app.

Since VLC is used as support to stream from other apps and vice-versa, the team wants to build a comprehensive media library so it will be easier to switch from iTunes.

Additionally, VLC is on the verge of surpassing three billion user downloads. Kempf was quick to clear up any doubts. We will let you know in advance once we define a date.
